The South Seattle Community College Accounting program:
- is designed with direct input from area business leaders
- is endorsed by the Financial Accounting Standards Board
- has short-term business curriculum with hands-on training, individualized attention, and personal and professional development guidance
Accounting is often called the language of business. To understand accounting, which is financial and budget management, is to understand business dynamics.
Through the SSCC Accounting program, students are taught:
- to analyze, classify, record, summarize and interpret business transactions
- how businesses operate and why certain business decisions are made
- computer skills and gain experience through the use of general ledger and spreadsheet software
Careers
Accounting graduates go on to work for:
- accounting firms and banking institutions
- large corporations and small businesses
- law firms and government agencies
- insurance companies, retail stores, and manufacturing firms
- the hospitality industry
Completing the Accounting program provides an excellent base to pursue more advanced career goals. Students can choose a specific accounting field of interest, such as tax accounting or choose to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), which requires a four-year bachelor's degree.
